Travelling over and San Fransico.

Theme song. Californian Joni Mitchell. "To travel is to live." Hans Christian Anderson.

We have decided to keep this online diary to remind us of the trip. We also thought anyone who was keen to keep up with our movements could follow us on here. Its our first attempt at blogging - aghhh.

Dylan, as many of us know has a strong eversion to blood.  It is usually the first question after a fallover, "Is there blood"? It surprised us then to watch him tuck into black pudding at the Holiday Inn at Heathrow.

The boys were great on the flight. UK security was worse than the US side. We were a little delayed at check in as it appeared we had never bought Solomon's ticket, but the queue to get through bag search was so long we got pushed to the front and then had to run to the gate. Proper sweat on getting on to the plane. Running to rescue Dylan back against the flow of the travelator added to the challenge.  Still, spirits were high and we had a determination all would be fine travelling with two small children which persisted into immigration US side. We were pleasantly surprised when we were whisked to the front of the queue again and then the Chinese man who fingerprinted us asked us about our plans and then simply said "what do the grandparents think?". It seems a new baby could be the new fast track travel accessory!

Day 1. Hotel in San Francisco was lovely. Dylan straight into Spongebob square pants on Nickelodeon irritation only that the adverts could not be fastforwarded as at home.

The jet lag meant we were up at 3am with the sealions! Open top tour round san fran then a boat trip under the golden gate bridge and around alcatraz.

No sign of clint eastwood....he must have made it!

Finished it all off watching the sun going down from the beach and then met by Petra for a fantastic meal. The boys both kipped in the restaurant leaving us to try out some Californian red and oysters. Petra is working on the America's Cup publicity and was telling us how it differs from pre Olympics preparation. Slept very soundly.

Day 2.   Headed off to the other side of town to fix ourselves up with a tablet from Betterbuys. Really pleased with ourselves working out public transport but striking how many homeless people there were around. Under a freeway we had to cross there were about 20 people sleeping in cars and on the sidewalk. Nb just going to use local terms as asking for the toilet rather than the washroom, or can I park my buggy here rather than my stroller, or do you sell nappies rather than diapers...clearly causes confusion so we are going to use local lingo as much as possible. Petra kindly then  ferried us out to the rvpick up in newark although the only pool car available was a hatchback. As the ryells are not exactly traveling light there was a couple of journeys required. Thanks again petra. Just for eveyone elses info the trip to newark happened to be in rush hour, easter break weekend and apparently some major baseball games happening.  I'm sure you can imagine the rest. Anyway picked up the van which is amazing and headed off for a curry buffet. Dylan tryed out the naan and a somosa. We then headed off to pillar points rv park, a stones throw from Mavericks in half moon bay. Had an interesting chat with some sozzled rv neighbours who said that my accent reminded them of notting hill!
