Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz

Track - This land is your land - Woodie Guthrie.  " If you keep your face turned into the sunshine, the shadows will always fall behind you". A park bench on santa cruz seafront.

Day 3; Went for breakfast at a local cafe, it did tea so was pretty happy with that. A massive signed picture of  jeff clarke was on the wall. Cool. Had our first encounter with the native wildlife, these wierd massive clams that were being harvested by a chinese guy. As you walked along the sand they squirted a jet of water about 2 foot in the air. it was like when iggle piggle found a piddle!

We headed back to the RV depot to pick up some chairs and get a cupboard we had already broken mended, and then spent a few hours in Walmart and a grocery store stocking up. The fridge freezer are bigger than ours at home. We then headed back to Half Moon Bay and Pete blagged us into a state run campsite right on the beach which was already full. Thanks to the boys again for that.

Day 4. Dylan was the first to take a dip in the pacific, not fully intentionally.  Becs went for a short but scenic jog along the beach.

Pete just marvelled at Mavericks for a while, amazed at how someone would ever consider making the first paddle out on their own. Neoprene hats off to you jeff. Petra joined us again for a very breezy walk along the beach and then we said our goodbyes and headed for santa cruz.

On arrival found the state RV park to be closed but had a walk anyway not much further than the sign informing you what to do if you meet a mountain lion....nice.  Headed off to westcliff road just above steamer lane and found a nice quiet street to park in.

Day 5. We were only 20 metres away from the ocean but it was a pretty howling gale with thunder and lightening to boot. Solomon tucked in tight to Mummy, both wearing lots of clothes and Daddy up with Dylan in the top bunk. Porridge with a view however in the morning and then a long walk along the Cliffside into town.

Santa Cruz is a very uatmospheric spot and people seem very focused on leisure and having fun. We started the walk in hats and coats were treated to our first bit of Californian sunshine and were stripped right down by time we got back.

Peye and dylan both got new skateboards. One to tick off the bucket list for pete.  For anyone in the know, its an anti hero deck with indy trucks and oj wheels!

We then picked up a second hand 5'11 santa cruz surf board and petehad his first surf just off the cliffs inside from steamer lane. A grey whale was breaching in the distance. Sol did a lot of feeding and chuckling. Dylan kicked a football around. We opted for another night free camping just a few streets away from the night before to avoid getting picked up for squatting.
